Feb­ru­ary 3, 2025 – San Diego, CA – Coastal Com­mu­ni­ty Foun­da­tion at San Diego Foun­da­tion announced today that it is now accept­ing grant appli­ca­tions rang­ing from $2,000 to $8,000 from non­prof­its sup­port­ing music edu­ca­tion and appre­ci­a­tion dur­ing sum­mer and fall 2025 in North San Diego Coun­ty.

Fund­ed through the Bet­ty Scal­ice Foun­da­tion, which sup­ports non­prof­it and school-based music pro­grams serv­ing North San Diego Coun­ty, grants can sup­port:

  • Com­mu­ni­ty con­certs
  • Youth musi­cal per­for­mances
  • Low-cost class­room musi­cal instru­ments
  • Class­room pro­grams that offer music and per­for­mances at schools
  • Low-cost equip­ment that sup­ports the teach­ing of choral music
  • Relat­ed pro­grams that pro­mote music appre­ci­a­tion

“We are incred­i­bly excit­ed to have the oppor­tu­ni­ty to sup­port musi­cal per­for­mances and expe­ri­ences through­out North Coun­ty San Diego Coun­ty,” said Rachel Ten­nis, Betty’s grand­daugh­ter.

Bet­ty Scal­ice cred­it­ed her sec­ond-grade music teacher for inspir­ing an appre­ci­a­tion of music and under­stand­ing its part in an over­all edu­ca­tion; Scal­ice start­ed the fund at Coastal Com­mu­ni­ty Foun­da­tion in 2010.

“It’s an hon­or for us to uphold our grandmother’s lega­cy and con­tin­ue her pas­sion for music,” added Rebekah Medefind, also Betty’s grand­daugh­ter.

Non­prof­its pro­vid­ing music in schools and pub­lic spaces can apply for grants rang­ing from $2,000 to $8,000 twice annu­al­ly. Sum­mer and fall 2025 pro­grams are invit­ed to apply between Feb. 3 through Feb. 28, 2025. Awards will be announced by April 2025.

Win­ter and spring 2026 pro­grams can apply between July 21 through Aug. 22, 2025, with awards announced by Sep­tem­ber 2025.
